Sacred vs. Shinola
Aiming the Hearts of my Children at What Matters Most
This blossoming book has purpose very close to my heart and home but could reach farther. In a series of letters
to my children I hope to bring into focus things that are truest, things less than best or even counterfeit and how to spot
the difference. Perhaps other parents and children can read it together and benefit.
So, what is Shinola? A shoe polish introduced in Rochester, NY in 1877 and manufactured until 1960. It claimed
to be able to make old boots new…or at least look like new. I have taken Shinola as a symbol for what is shined up
to look more valuable and authentic than it really is.
Here are some chapter titles in no particular sequence. I have many more so this endeavor may take two volumes.
Joy vs. Happiness
Admiration vs. Popularity
Reading vs. TV
Wisdom vs. Education
Ice Cream vs. Yogurt
Courage vs. Bravado
Significance vs. Success
Kind vs. Nice
Heaven vs Sky
If you like what you read, please, point others to it at: billyspraguemusic.com/n-the-works
If not, be nice if you can’t be kind. (I have a chapter on that.) Thank you
Sincerely, Billy
